Persimmon Tree

Now based in Hepburn Springs, Victoria, poet and elder Venie Holmgren, brings the online magazine Persimmon Tree to my attention.

Venie writes of a wind that never stops blowing in her fine poem This Wind published in an international selection of poems about aging. The poets are from Australia, Bolivia, Canada, India, Israel, UK and the US.

Persimmon Tree is ‘a showcase for the creativity and talent of women over sixty. Too often older women's artistic work is ignored or disregarded…’

There is a feature on fibre artist Sheila Hicks with images of work including wall hangings and major installations. She works with rubber bands, linen, paper, cotton, porcupine quills, wool, silk…

Theatre, fiction, non-fiction are also published. Submission guidelines vary according to genre and poetry is general through a contest scenario twice a year. More information here.

Gossip is the theme for Short Takes submissions currently being accepted (personal experiences and irony particularly welcome) and closing October 31, followed by guilty pleasures due by January 31.
